Speed Up Your Download Speed A simple tweak for increasing your transfer rate is adjusting the packet size Data is transferred in packets through the internet. After tweaking the RWIN, MTU and MSS (see Modem Tips for more info), we can change the Windows' Network packet size setting. The default setting is Automatic. But if the size of the packet in transfer is wrong, the transfer rate is effected (overrun or underrun). Setting it to "Small" seems to ensure a faster burst rate. Try it for yourself. Steps: Open the Control Panel Choose Network Highlight Dial-Up Adapter Click Properties Click the Advanced Tab Under Property: select "IP Packet Size" Under Value: choose "Small". That's it, choose "Ok" to close both windows.
